Cracker Curs

I have been hog doggin in Florida for almost 5 years and finally can say I have a somewhat good pack of hogs dogs. My line is cracker curs from south Florida. I have tried to breed my main male to three different gyps which none of them took. One of the gyps has had multiple litters from other dogs not from my yard. I assume he is sterile and cannot breed, but my question is can a dog go sterile if he ever had a heat stroke? My buddy asked me if he ever got hot and I told him yes when he was a year and a half old he got caught up in long race one morning and passed out which I got him to a water hole and he came out of it in a few minutes. This did not affect his ability to hunt after that but my buddy that works cattle said this can make a dog sterile. I can't get any puppies off him after 3 breedings with 3 different bitches. I may have him tested at the vet but I think it may be a waist of time and money. Just wanted to see if any one had experience with this?

On another note, his pain in the ass brother after three years of hunting just flipped the switching and is finding almost all of the hogs these days so I will plan to breed him this spring but just wanted to share and see what y'all thought.

Breed the brother... a lot of times lesser littermates are better producers.

All my dogs comes from the same blood line and are straight catch once they stop. The brother has start to bay until he hears us coming then he catches but he has been cut down so many times I think that is why he started baying bigger hogs.

I've had breeders that use glyco flex joint supplement and for some reason it seems to help fertility.  Then, went to revivalhealth.com and used their oxymate supplement, and it really helped. But, take him to a vet, have him pulled and let them look at his specimen under a microscope and they can tell u if he has enough swimmers to do the trick.

Could have Brucellosis from hogs causing him to be sterile......brother would be the only option.

That white dog that got killed is a good looking cur. Can you carry just two of those curs to the pasture and catch hogs with them, or do you need to carry a bulldog.

Mike I probably should already know this but I don't, so why do you say the above. Thanks,

I've seen it several times. The best dog or super star of a litter may not be a good producer. But littermates, that aren't as good, produce well.

Thanks for all the advice. As of right now I am going to attempt to breed to his brother in the picture. Talked to the vet and he said chances of brucellosis is low and there would be some symptoms with it. I have been told about some fertility things are can try but I will wait cause I have been trying to breed this male for 2 years and just ready to get my own line going.

Go to the drug store and get vitamin A, C,D&E.  250 to 500 mg.  Give this to your dog every day for about a month for sure before you breed him. If he aint all but sterile this will do the trick.  Let me know what happens.

Mike is right.  Super stars hardly ever reproduce dogs as good as they are.  Sometimes you will get a freak that will they are rare.   If your super star comes from a high % liter that where good dogs then his old hard working good brother tgat is game to the bone is the one you should take a hard look at producing wise.  Seen it many , many times.
