Never did too much night hunting ,, always hunted during the day even in summer months. It gets hot quick mid summer and with the dry summer it makes it hard on the dogs,, especially the long winded ones. For those of you that night hunt pretty regular,,, my question is.. If you hunt a area with a lot of running hogs,, do they seem to bay quicker at night or it don't matter to em. We barely ever get hogs to bay in their beds ,, they are gonna stretch their legs out and it might take a hour or two to get em to settle in somewhere after the wind is run out of em. So Im gonna try it this summer at night and see what happens,,, don't like fighting these clear cuts in the day much less at night but we'll see...

To me it's harder to shut one down at night because it's harder for them to see. At least that's my theory. I have better luck with them not running as much during the day.

Drop a gangster dog on em day or night won't matter lol. Seems like it is much easier in the day time most of my long runs happen at night

I hunt at night out of necessity. Only time I have off to go. I think its easier in daylight for men and dogs.

Yeah I would also say hogs tend to tie it on just a little bit harder at night.

When most of my hunts were at night we had better luck with full moon nights when the moon was somewhat directly over head...
I did not like no moon or new moon nights...
Daytime hunting is best for me...

Training dogs is not about quantity, it's more about timing, the right situations, and proper guidance...After that it's up to the dog...

I used to hunt 50/50 night and day... they run just the same. I haven't night hunted a handful of times in the past several years... I just like hunting in the daylight better. Even in the heat of summer, the morning is the coolest time of day... usually hunt till 10 to noon.

I like starting about 3 or 4 in the morning and hunt til about 9 or 10.
I have seen no difference in night or day.

To me it depends on what kind of area I'm hunting if it's in the woods it's mostly day time. But once the corn fields up here are up tall and no air and HOT... I'll run a couple of sure enough rough shut down dogs and that's it . Depends on if there's water where I'm hunting to.

I personally don't care much for night hunting but I do think its good for the young dogs to be made to do so.

I haven't hunted hogs much at night ....I don't feel I can train the dogs I like as well at night ...its not about catching the hogs for me its training the dogs ...I have caught enuff hogs for me ...now these boys here that hunt with me is all about catching.......I like the sign to be a few hours old so I hunt about 7am to about 11 and head in ....... hunt later and longer in winter ........ I do think some hogs may stand better if you can stand him up in his bed rather than him up rambling and get jumped ....... and they do ramble more at night and should be a lot easier to jump .....

Mr Parker you been doing this a lot longer than me do you think it helps to take a young dog that's proved he can find a hog in the day and hunt them at night I always take mine after they are doing good and hunt them at night I have always thought it help to round them out a little . |

Like I said I don't care for night hunting but I do night hunt some depending on weather or just plain ole too much to do in the day time so I like the accustomed to hunting at night I feel like its a good experience.
