Owned it for a year and only needed it 3 to 4 times but the 60$ I spent on it has found my dogs when i needed it the most. It was stormy out and dog was in a creek bottom once, other times just out of range so my vote is if a 60 dollar antenna saves a dog might as well throw it in your tracking bag or tote for the rare occation you need it and it ends up paying for itself. .02

Definately worth the money, used mine several times when they go out of range. When I first got it I set a collar on my porch and almost got 4 miles out of it on a road with lots of dips and hills.

If you have any long range dogs, you best go ahead and spend the extra $60 buck. You will be glad you did. I use mine all the time, but I got long range dogs. I have had it pick them up 3 1/2 to 4 mile away, and we was in some pretty thick stuff out in Plum Grove. jmo

I wouldn't know about the small mountains, but I do know I have no problems picking my dogs up in the creeks and rivers around here with my handheld long range antenna.

Out to 6.5 miles with my truck mount antenna...I've never been able to track more than 2 miles in my area with the hand held long range antenna.
