Cracker Curs

Got a brother and sister I kept off my first cracker cur breeding. This is the first litter of my own stuff and I'm excited to see how they turn out. They're almost 4 months old, I mock road hunt them every day in front of the buggy to exercise them when I get home for work. The female is alpha and constantly jumping on the male when exercising them, she has a block head and is bigger, the male is long and lanky and real fast. At what age should I separate them and put them with my grown dogs? I want them both to meet there full potential. They also ride everywhere in the box on my buggy good. Just seeing what others do with their pups. I don't plan on starting them until around 9-10 months..... all my dogs are gritty and catch so I like to start a little sooner so they have time to learn and handle themselves with a rank hog.

I've got a pen I keep all my pups in with a 3 ft high door... when they start climbing over it, they go on a chain. Usually around 5 or 6 months old.

I would let them bay and catch a smaller hog to build  their confidence (baypen)...then I would put them with a bigger pig that can teach them a little respect to make them back up and bay...

Then I would stage a pig where the pups can smell them at cross wind...mark the spot where the pig scent is crossing...just in case the pups need encouragement to find when roading them...

Also...I think it is important to not just road them...turn them out in some open woods and kick back and relax...let the pups get bored and they will learn to roll out and range and when they check back in move to another spot and repeat...when roading them and if they smell something that gets their interest...stop and let them work it out and sometimes you should help them work it out to solve what they are working...and sometimes they might surprise you and bay a pig...if they lose interest move on...it is all about the pups...doing the right things at the right times will bring out the best from the pups...good luck and enjoy...

Let your imagination be your guide...

I think people make it too complicated. Put them on a chain or their own Kennel when they are 4-5 months old. While they are young let em run anything maybe show them a pig here an there, then once they are fast enough to keep up with your main dogs and will fire off on a pig start running them with your pack. Nothing will teach them more than other trained dogs.
