Spare me the BS. Show me the hog.

My brother-in-law called me up a couple of days ago and asked me if I would take him and a friend of his hunting. He said his friend had never been hunting with dogs before and was really wanting to go. We started off about 7am and the dogs made a pretty good circle, but no luck. We roaded them to the back of the place to check a feeder and discovered that everything was under water and not a sign of a hog anywhere. We sat around BSing for awhile, letting the dogs hunt, when we barely heard them open up. We couldn't get to them on the wheeler, so we unloaded my bulldog and made our way to them. We sent Bocephus in from about 100yds away and got the first small boar caught. My brother-in-law's buddy dispatched his first hog and we kept moving. The dogs rolled out as soon as the bulldog had gotten there and had another small boar stopped 50yds away. We cut Bocephus from where we broke him off the first hog and we had another one caught. The dogs rolled out again and caught out on another small boar that weighed about 45lbs 1/2 mile away. We went to them, but by the time we got to them they were leaving out again. I still could hear some faint squealing so I went in to check it out and dispatch the hog. I was walking up to a large cactus patch when I noticed a coyote go running off. It appeared that he had beat me there and was taking advantage of a free meal. Overall, it was a good hunt that created one more hooked fan of the sport.

Lots of action is always a great hook for a first timer.

They just got lucky. It was a good textbook hunt that comes once every so often. The funny thing was after we caught the first hog he said" this is awesome and easy, I'm going to go get me some dogs and do this" lol Grin...I tried to explain that most of the time these ol hogs like to RUN, or we end up crossing some river or creek multiple times and when we finally do get them bayed up, its usually in about the worst spot you can think of Grin By the end of the hunt I think I finally had him convinced to hold off on some dogs and hunt some more to gain experience, that way he can find out exactly what he wants.
