Went yesterday with my uncle, his son and Colby . Headed to a place my uncle leases for cattle but his buddies have the hunting rights leases and they wanted to go. Carried sketch rocky and a dog I’m feeding for a buddy. Colby brought his old rose dog. She’s like 13-14 and fat and out of shape. Anyway we cast sketch and rose out and sketch leaves out hunting comes back then goes leaves out further and repeats. About the 4th time she went to traveling we decided to try to get around closer. We got within 700 yards and she end up striking. We can hear her baying but she’s walking 100 yards up the creek and then 100 yards back down it. Rose couldn’t hear her but I decided to see if I could get rocky to cast to her and maybe he’d get close enough to hear. Sure enough it worked and he went to her, soon as he gets there everything stops, they tighten up and go to baying right like they wrote the book on it. We head to get around to them and go the entire wrong way at first. Get turned around and then take 20 minutes to get both rangers through the creek crossings. Finally get about 150 from them and I get out and go to head to them and my uncle tells me to wait. Then he tells Colby to turn rose out “if she goes to them and starts baying it’s a hog”. Now let me tell you my uncle has more respect from me than anyone else on God’s green earth. But in that moment I was as mad as ive ever been. Doubt my dogs like he’s ever seen them trash before. Rose gets there and now all the sudden everybody’s on the same page, we got hogs bayed cause rose is there. We head to them expecting it to be the good boar they had been seeing, get in there and they’ve got about 5 real big sows, couple smaller pigs, some shoats, and a whole mess of piglets rallied. Colby and my uncle shoot 2 big sows off the rally, they break, rose and sketch go 100 east and bay and rocky and little bay breaker extraordinaire go 100 west and bay. Me and Jake go to the gyps and the other 3 go to the young dogs. Kill 2 more good sows. Sketch rolls over .7 and sits bayed on neighbors place. Couldn’t get ahold of him so I tone her off and we pretty much called it after that. Didn’t get pics or vids worth a piss. Had to laugh afterwards at my uncle and Colby, I told them that sketch and rocky get together and they bay as pretty as you want em too. And they did, so pretty they thought they were trashing lol. They were impressed and I was too frankly. Had a guy from mustang cat out with us that was his first time out with dogs and I figure we broke him in as right as we could, he had a blast.

Your gonna have to call her Etcha-sketch. You let her play with your garmin and look at the pics she can draw, lol. Sounds and looks like she did you proud, congrats.

I have bayed 4 since the new year with sketch and rocky. The first 2 were in country where hogs are as educated as the come. 1st place was a ranch we’ve hunted atleast 2x a month on average for 4 years. The second was back on some older guys I hunt with homeplace where they’ve been hunting most every weekend for however long they’ve had the place. The most recent 2 have been on places hunted fairly minimally as far as I know.

Lol the names sketch is derived from etcha sketch because her markings reminded me of drawing on one as a kid. And as a pup she was sketchy about everything, to get to see her sometime and you will realize today still, she is about the goofiest, most sensitive, dog you ever seen that still has as a good of a head as she does on her.
