Not sure if this is the proper name... but I’m referring to when a dog hunts in bad briars and the next day his hair looks rough, and he’s all scratched and cut up. I’ve got one dog in particular that will scab up pretty good and have what looks like dry skin and some sores and puss spots. I hunted him hard twice last week and he looks pretty rough. I put him on some antibiotics but I’m wondering if I should sit him out or if he’s okay to hunt on Saturday. Anybody got experience with this type of thing?

Yeah man,,, that's a good way to tell if a dog is hunting hard... or one that is just hunted in open woods or pastures... If he aint got bumps in the inside of his ears than he don't know what a clear cut is..LOL

Lol we hunt some real rough terrain. Swamp, river, and lots of briars. Mine are always cut up because of the briars but I was just concerned about the sores oozing puss. Mainly because it’s one dog that has it worse, that dog is also the best dog I have though and covers the most ground

I've had a dog in the past that was allergic to something in the thick in the summertime he'd get bumps and sores all over and I would give him an appropriate weight dose of childrens benadryl for a few days and it would clear up.

I may need to look in to that, he only gets it real bad sometimes. He gets bumps all over and they will start to puss. And his back legs are covered in dry skin that’s scaly. I tried to get a picture earlier but I had already thrown him a slab of meat so he wouldn’t come out of the dog house lol

He may be breaking out with some kind of staph infection. My dogs do it about twice a year... 5 days worth of 500 mg cephalexin pills and they shine like show dogs.

Gotcha, that may be what it is. He only does it every so often and the other dogs don’t really do it which is why I was so curious about it

Wash the dog with dial antibacterial soap the less pills and shots you give the better they work when really needed. That’s all I do
