Well myself and a couple buddies made a little round this morning. We cast the dogs and it wasn't too long before we were bayed at about 600 yards. When we got to them they were down on a deeeeep gulley. All three dogs were telling it. They had a sow about 170 give or take, bayed in an undercut of the bank. Well I sent my bulldog and as soon as they saw her coming, the cur dogs mounted this sow. Well they didn't do a very good job because she came blowing out of the hole and was fixing to go up the opposite bank. Now this is the good. She was 3 or 4 steps up the bank and my Raylynn gyp hopped up beside her and eared her and jerked her back down to the bottom and then the bulldog eared up while Raylynn went to the back end and the other 2 found a spot. Raylynn is not one that catches on the head. She will tear out their hams and family jewels but this time she was smart enough and athletic enough to know how to turn the hog and stay out of the way and made it look effortless. That was good watching. The bad was they rolled over and bayed a big boar. When we sent the bulldogs they missed. The hog was in that tall grass down on the river bank. We were looking down on them and couldn't see him so I know they couldn't from.the direction they chose to go in. Had they gone around 10 more foot it would've been an open shot. This way though, he heard them busting in from behind and was busting out over the top of them before they knew he was there. They hit him at the river and and the current took them down river about 200 yards. My buddies bulldog went down and never came up. That was definitely the bad. It was my bulldogs 2nd trip to the woods and her first catch in the woods. I'm hoping she makes it because she got the looks and athleticism.

Man, I sure hate to hear about the bulldog not making it. She must of had a vest on. We almost lost mine in a river but my buddy grabbed her as she was going under.

The bull dog was vested. I think being overweight and out of shape got him as much as anything. There was no way to get ahold or catch up until they got to the bank at a bend of the river. Joel she isn't the best dog I've ever owned but she is definitely climbing the ladder and she is definitely one of my all time favorites. Its gotten to the point that I don't hardly want to go if I can't take her.

Hate the loss of yalls bulldog. I’ve had one drown before on our river and came close on another. It’s tough thing about hunting close to the water.

Sorry for your buddies loss. I’ve almost lost my bull dog several times in water. He’s not a real strong swimmer and burns himself out fast. Him and another dog caught a sow in a canal a little over a month ago and the sow swam with them to the far bank, which was vertical. He managed to climb up out of the water, spit out some water and caught his breath and then jumped back in on her head. He’s worried me a few times because when he gets tired he will start struggling and gulping water. I’ve snatched him up the bank several times

For those of y’all running vests, Michael at hardcore hog dogs will add flotation to the best for $10. I have an old full length bay vest that I used to use on that dog. It made a big difference. He swam at least twice as good with it. Only reason I don’t run it now is he runs hot in a full length so I got him the bikini SS speed suit, and forgot to get flotation added to it. I don’t normally run vests at all, depends on the temperature and the dog

I’ll get a pic of the vest tomorrow, it’s not noticeable at all though. It feels like gel inside the vest. Can’t be more than a 1/4” thick at the most. It’s not much different than a normal vest. Michael that owns hardcore hog dogs does it on any vest for an additional $10. It’s not a life jacket, the dog still has to swim. But it’s like a kid having little arm floaties. I’ve personally seen my catch dog wearing it and he swam effortlessly in it. Normally he struggles swimming wide water and gets tired quick. It’s WELL worth the $10 in my opinion, especially if they have a pig caught in the water Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

This is the full length bay vest from hardcore hog dogs. The flotation is in the little rectangle in the last picture. There’s one on each side and I think one in the front. In the front I can’t tell if that’s added Kevlar or the flotation. Very slim though, still flexible. If anything it probably adds some more toughness to the vest also, with it being just slightly thicker there. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
