Went huntin sat. mornin took my 18 mon. old gyp i recently got from T.Angel and we got on a boar that had sum fight to him i guess she got excited and got to close and got cut so she stop bayin. Now tha ? is that goin to lower her cofindence or her drive to hog hunt because she came ryt beside me wen it happened but wen the CD caught she went back down and barked a little. afterwards i praised her real good and she loosened up a little but jus curious about that.
Would appreciate ur comments on this situation

It could definately go either way! If when she got cut she got more startled then hurt and just gave a little more room then you would have liked but the rest of your pack stayed on the boar until the CD caught and then she got back in there and you let her feel alright about the situation before dispatching of the boar then I think you should be alright but only time and further experience will show how she took being cut. She is definately old enough to be out with the big boars so I wouldn't be to woried about it and learning how much space to give a bay is something she would have to learn someday!

I think she'll be fine. I had a young catahoula once, about the same age, that got beat and cut bad on three big boars in a row. Set him way back for a while... but he finally came back around.

i have had it happen out here in cali......what i do now is keep the dog tied out side the bay pen for a few bayin's and let her or him get the excitement back in them and then put them on a small hog.....lost a young catahoula a few years back that got beat up on his first few bays and just lost his drive to go.....take your time, be patient....if the dog has good drive, leave it home for one or two hunts, and then try the bay pen thing and it should be alright. the first time that my hazel dog got cut she quit and came back to me, now she was cut pretty good, i guess it scares them or something because i have had her cut several times after that and she hasn't quit. To be honest i think it has made her a little roughier. She was young like your dog, she should be ok. best of luck
