Training dogs is not about quantity, it's more about timing, the right situations, and proper guidance...After that it's up to the dog... A hunting dog is born not made...

What do you think of shamrock?
I have a shamrock and Weems cross that is acting pretty good at 5 months old...a dark brindle as well

I didn't realize the plotts were so culturally diverse. You have some of it all, Irish, Indian, French....

Great pics. The one on the right, looks like they are waiting their turn to get to the tree. Yall get to run many while you were in the UP? Also is that Rhino lining on the hood for a rigging platform.

Yeah, its roll on Rhino liner. We only ran two in the five days I was there spent too much time looking for big bear. One day had 8 baits with sows and cubs. The two we ran the dogs did well and got em treed.

The Jonet dog is just over a year and doing most everything I could expect at his age. Making a nice dog. As for the Shamrock dogs, Joe Hudson has been consistently catching bear with the same strain for decades so they are time tested and proven bear dogs. They have lost the famous grit they were known for over the last ten years. Too many unfortunate incidents robbed him of his overly gritty dogs, but he's still catching plenty!

Well I like over the line grit and I was told they still had it but not as strong...I am hoping for outstanding striking ability and not having to put the dog on a track to run it like some bear hunters do or start them from bait barrel...
How do you start your dogs on a bear...do you free cast or start them on a good track?
One thing about too much grit the dogs cull themselves from the breeding program hunting dangerous game...but with the alpha and running vest it helps when hog hunting...

Yeah mike, they have issues. Rueben I run off baits in Wisconsin and Michigan. Run off rig strikes in western states. Don’t cast these dogs much for bear but have on hogs around home.
