Made a hunt last night on the moon I Brought Hambone and Rye.Dwayne brought young Xena the catchdog in training.Hambone struck from the boat and in short order he and Rye had this super poor no eared sow caught she smelled BAD they rolled off her and I ended up having to tone them off the others because of a big gator canal.Moved on and he struck again sent them and he fell bayed at .85 in the middle of a really nasty head.Make our way in and send Xena from 75yds she got an ear and held it but in short order he shredded Rye and Xena's front ends had to carry both out after a few staple guns luckily he only had about 1.5" cause I believe the story woulda had a different outcome had he had 3".Either way it was a dang good hunt and we had a blast. He's got that nasty dog cutter look. Glad it wasn't as bad as it could've been.

Thanks yall... I had a typo in my story I meant to say they fell bayed at .85 although Hambone was in the lead by quite a bit and stopped him by himself Rye was there shortly after.

I think it's a major plus that he got the opportunity to make a race after you had to tone him off the other hogs. It reinforces the stay and it let's him know to not resist when he's called off because there's probably another one that he's going to get the opportunity to hammer.

I agree T-dog, unfortunately where I hunt I have to call my dog's off races most every hunt sometimes several times per hunt.I don't know if it has affected their bottom but it's a necessity to keep them from being eaten.
Thanks NLAhunter I appreciate it.

Real good hunt and I am with you as far as toning dogs off if they are getting in a dangerous situation. A hog is just not worth a good dogs life. There is always another hog. It is hard to replace those good dogs.

Training dogs is not about quantity, it's more about timing, the right situations, and proper guidance...After that it's up to the dog... A hunting dog is born not made...

Good hunt Cracker... hope the dogs are ok. I’m with you on the toning... I have to tone mine back nearly every hunt for some reason or another.

I totally agree with the toning. Ole Hambone is making a sure enough nice dog. They don't just come around everyday, .the guys are right about that.
