Still love bouncing ideas off y’all even after all this time lol... this is a cross I’ve been working towards for a while.

Goal?  Add bite/speed/athleticism without losing anything but working sense

Outcrossing on the right Shep/Mali line will be key

First I'd say I'm the least of you in experience and advice to give, but if I was going to venture down this road I would consider the Belgian Malinois. To me, they seem to fit the athletic, smarts and bite profile you described.

After posting, I see you mentioned the malinois. Never mind.  Undecided

Fellow I know Is crossing border collie with lurcher style dogs for the brains and athleticism, and selecting the one’s that have natural treeing tendencies and crossing them back over treeing stock and is creating his own style of bobcat hound, my favorite kinda stuff to read about...

He’s ruffled enough feathers in the bobcat hunting world to fully feather a flock of turkeys but as far as I know has yet had a single heavy hitter in that world step up to the plate and call his bluff with open invitations on the table for them to come to him or he to them to show his dogs abilities to do as he claims...

If I can get my hands on the right Mali in my price range, I will have my next catch dog prospect, they have almost everything I like in a catchdog except for being longer coated than most moulasser type breeds...

I would say the right Malinois Shepherd of the Police dog stock that are used to run down and stop criminals would be the type to use with the right breed or strain of proven catch dogs...

Good to see you on here Noah...

I have absolutely no experience with this, but I would suggest strongly looking at the Malinois that you select. The ones the military use are typically not from America from what I’ve heard/seen, (although I may be thinking of German Shepherds not Belgian Malinois) but they are tested extensively and one of the tests is will they hold on to a person while that person is beating on them trying to make them let go. I have read some posts from a guy that works them as well as hog dogs (his name is calicatchers on instagram, great page to check out) and he has posted before about how it takes a very hard dog to go under a house or in a room and hold a grown man after the dog has been beaten or even shot. In special operations it’s not unheard of to have a dog kill someone. Some of the SOF dogs have multiple kills from clearing houses. I would do a lot of digging to try and find a dog off of those lines

Good to see you again as well Reuben, bred a lot, hunted a lot, culled a lot since we last spoke lol... but I have made headway in concentrating my old blood for posterity so I might experiment with said outcrosses for my own amusement lol... and yes Austesis, me and Cali have spoken lol... two likeminded fruitcakes on opposite coasts

That’s awesome Noah, he’s an extremely intelligent man. I wish he was on here, he has a lot of interesting posts and good reads on instagram. I love how open minded he is with a lot of different breeds and methods of working dogs.

Not saying that the cross will work or it won’t, but what that guy is doing to that dog in the vids is not even close to the resistance a good boar will dish out.

I read a book on Ben Lilly believe he liked a dog with some collie in it or at least hunted a few on big game.

I never hunted mine but i can guarantee they had the endurance and speed of any cur/hound type dog. And if they can smell out drugs and bombs i'd imagine they like to use their nose to track
