I know there’s guys that hunt the islands out east on the rivers and along the coast, anybody know the actual laws on this or if it’s allowed certain places or if it’s a grey area or what’s the deal?

Lmao I do not have the right style dogs for this. It was really just curiosity killing the cat because the lake I saw hogs on today that made me ask also holds huge gators and I ain’t that brave even if it was legal Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

It depends... most of the islands around Matagorda are privately owned. The ones at the mouth of the Trinity I believe you have to have a permit from the Corp. of Engineers. The ones on the north end of Lake Livingston are owned by the TRA and they don’t allow anything but duck hunting.... found that out after the fact hahahaha. I’ve hunted all the above, plus a few others... them cur dogs will do just fine Slim.

I was asking because I’ve seen a metric ton of swine on lake Mathis. But it’s 99% private owned. Internet search said you can barely even duck hunt it legally because most of the lake, your feet touch soil you are trespassing. But there are a few islands that would make the outlaw in me do a little poking around a few years ago. Lol

This question has become relevant again for me, specifically regarding barrier islands on the coast and the legality of running dogs/killing hogs on those islands outside the intercoastal? I know it used to be done a lot around matagorda but based on Mikes previous answer, maybe those guys had access to the private land if those islands are privately owned. Obviously I’m going to talk to TPWD as well. Any input or first hand knowledge/experience on this topic is welcomed and appreciated.
