Honest question here....not looking to criticize anyone or their dogs.

I usually don’t get pups from people I don’t know, but I have been offered a male out of Darla Rathke’s stock from Rocksprings, Tx. He was purchased to be used as a blood tracking dog - he’s 3 months old.

Has papers - that has no importance to me as I am more curious how these dogs work or if any of you guys have any experience with them.

Thanks in advance.

I don’t have any experience with them, but remember a guy that use to be on here that went by Judd I believe and he hunted those dogs with really good success.

Judd had the Okefenokee Cowboy dog named Newt. I’m not even sure if he even hog hunts anymore.

Well, he’s here. Didn’t have much time to make the call. Thanks for the responses. I do like the fact he’s got a half tail, makes a lot less noise in the dog box.

The Rathke Reno dog seems to show up on a lot of yellow dogs down here in Fl. Reno was bred to a dog off the Adam's ranch to make cowboy.

I've never hunted with Full Rathke dogs. Ive hunted quite a few with Reno blood, including Newt.  My hunting buddy has a yellow female that goes back to Reno several times and she is a nice dog.

Just like every line of dog. The ones hunted and hunted hard, make nice dogs. The others dont.

Newt was linebred dog off cowboy to a female named Reba.

There is a guy in S.Fl that bred a bunch to a son off newt. My buddies dog is a female off that dog.

Ben,

No he was killed on a hog when Judd was hunting him.

He was not bred a lot early. He was sold as an older dog and was bred a bunch then. Judd bought him back and was hunting him. Okeefeokee cowboys mother (delight) was a dog that came off the ranch where newt was hunted a bunch.

This is the ped to the male dog off him. This is the daddy to my hunting partners dog. He has Reno several times in the ped, as does the dam. The pink noses show up heavily in these lines.

Well the board is a little slow so I thought I’d post a couple pictures. Really liking this pup so far , one of the smarter ones I’ve been around. He’s already grasping the pecking order who to pester and who to avoid and kennels up on command. Been getting some truck time, took him fishing with us and get went to work calves the other day. Hauled him with us hunting on Sunday just to get used to the sights, sounds, smells etc. He learned to cross fences, jumped in the creek, got dog bit, spanked and even got drug a few feet when he jumped out of the gator but he never once whined or complained. I enjoy raising pups and look forward to seeing what he can do.

14 months. Found his first pigs on his own the other day behind a tank - not hunting. Held the lead sow at bay for a good 5 minutes or so.  Not bad for first one to see and being alone. About to start him with the older dogs and see what he’s got……

Only issue at this point is that he is overly protective of me. He’s been hauled everywhere, seen more places and people than most pups his age. Never had one like this - not necessarily a bad thing, but may be an issue with strangers.

He sure has filled out in to a nice looking dog. I’ve got one gyp in particular that can get real nasty towards people at the house, even my hunting buddies. She does fine around them while hunting though, and will even let them load her up. At the house, I don’t trust her around anyone except my wife.
