Well Ole Jezz came in so I’m giving it a whirl. She’s the last of my old line of catch dogs that I raised for 20+ years. She’s also a direct daughter of my old Vegas male. She’s about 8 years old if I remember correctly. The old girl is a legitimate 80 pound female and has the right characteristics I like in a catch dog. She’s still pretty fast and athletic for staying in a kennel and her age. She caught a few hogs and did it well but was put up. Hopefully she wasn’t wasted. By that I mean let get too old. Time will tell I guess.

That’s a good looking gyp for sure. It’s hard to find the bulldogs that are true 75lb+ bulldogs that are athletic and smart.

The biggest influence was “Bettes Big Head”. He at one time held the world record in pulling. He was a registered pit bull but it was HIGHLY suspected he was half American. I believe that myself. His pull weight was 85- 88 pounds and he was an athletic build. If I remember right Mr. Bettes told me he caught well too. He was a white dog with some brindle on his head. He looked very similar to my American male but had a better head shape and muzzle than my dog. I’ll see if I can find a picture of him and post it.

Thanks Gary. I have a couple of options IF she takes and IF they work right, lol. I fall a deeper in love with this male dog every time I hunt him. The gyps daddy is hands down the best catch dog I’ve owned. I’ve hunted with lots of people with really nice catch dogs but never saw one that I would have traded for him. Not saying he was the world’s greatest but he sure fit the bill for me. The gyps momma was really nice. On about her third or fourth hunt, I had taken one bay dog and her to the woods by myself. I bayed a hog that I can only guess the weight of. Thirty years of doing this and seeing others that I know for sure what they weighed, this hog was 400+ and a Barr. She got two K-9’s knocked completely out and the other two broke off at the gum line and she still caught him completely solo. It took myself, my dad, and 2 big stout nephews to load him a trailer and untie him. If you’re wondering I called them to come help after I tied him because I couldn’t budge him alone. It was a shame that she lost her teeth because she had the potential to be super good, but she produced well and I learned a lot about her make up that day. If these pups get the same brains and want to as both parents I’ll be ok. It just has to be that right nitch as you know.

Well, as luck would have it, I wanted females and got all males. She had trouble having them so a couple shots were needed. Of the 6 males 2 were still born. I guess they were in the birth canal too long. 3 of the 4 that survived are quality pups and the runt is a little dude for sure but not ever going to be the same caliber dog as the other 3. There was one brindle ring neck and 2 fawn ring necks with black masks and the runt was fawn red nose with a redder mask. They are all bulldog for sure. Their confidence is through the roof and they are smart and real people dogs. The one I kept is made like my old family but is his daddy’s son 100% in nature and personality. I already have him playing ball, lol. They’ll be 11 weeks old Friday.
