Went one day and free cast the dogs they struck hot and ran about .75 and bayed a little 150 lb boar with real small teeth, we had several dogs loose and they had caught him he did cut a couple of them before getting loose and backing in a bad blackberry patch so they were bayed when we got there caught him and went back to strike and they ran another track and caught a big shoat got them off him and sent them again they struck and went away from us almost a mile before we got around there they were coming out, I figure they mashed another shoat.
Next trip struck a really cold track dogs split at the jump had 4, 2 of them were making a wrap and we went to a pipeline clearing and we saw a big black hog cross with the dogs right behind them, they bayed almost immediately after crossing the pipeline, I sent the catchdog from 75 or 100 yds since it was a real good hog that hadn't ran far and was bayed in fairly open timber, just as I sent the catchdog the hog broke and they ran over a finger on the hill and showed to be caught on the other side when we got there they had a Coyote stretched and limber. Will never know how that switch happened in a matter of about 60 seconds one of those odd things that you will only see when out amongst them. Shocked the crap out of my dog and went on.
Next trip cast the young dogs into the foot of a hill with a slough around it and they struck pretty soon discovered they were running a deer. fried them off and went on struck a cold track in about .5 they jumped and ran close to a mile up the creek from us and done a 180 starting back got about a quarter and bayed. Got there and they had a potbelly caught haha. Another fellow had told Adam he had saw 3 potbellies a mile over a few days before I guess they were with some more hogs and this little short legged fellow got behind . Had never bayed a potbelly inthe woods before. Still waiting on a good one to be at the end.

Nice adventures Oldman. Pretty impressive to stretch a coyote. Them daddy didn't marry mommys are thick down here. My buddies that run beagles are complaining about the rabbit population. I see a bunch of em and they have escorted my dogs back to me a couple times lately. I’ve declared war on them!

That wasn’t a hog you thought you seen them baying…..it was a coyote in hogs clothing! On the plus side, at least you know for sure you got onto them for trashing and they know it. Neither of you had to guess about what was happening and why. Sounds like they’ve at least been able to see pork and get out.

Glad to hear you are out and after them old man. Been a couple times, haven’t caught any thing exceptional yet. I have had coyotes come to a bay and get within a few feet before. Good luck.

I haven't either, the hunting here has been kinda poor in the old faithful easily accessed spots, there has been some other folks hunting in them this summer and fall, probably have them moved around.

My best guess about it is that maybe since the hog broke just as I turned the catchdog loose 75-100yds out that maybe when the baydogs ran over that finger they got the hog stopped and the coyote just showed up to see what was going on and was between the catchdog and the baydogs as the catchdog arrived so he just grabbed him and the Plotts pulled to the fight and assisted him. This is only a guess considering all the possible events, since they weren't running a coyote and even if the dogs and hog jumped him out of a bed they should not have been able to catch him that quick, may just be a case where the curiosity killed the coyote instead of the cat.

Yeah that’ll make u scratch ur head won’t it. It’s just another one of them things u don’t see everyday and have a story to tell for sure.
A man that tells a story and ain’t afraid to mention he had to trash break his dogs is a honest man in my book. So many times you hear a feller say what his dogs won’t do but in reality don’t matter how old a dog is a man can’t guarantee what he will or won’t do while hunting. Or he’s just lying to himself. Lol.
