My Buddy in SC invited me and my Buddy Jake to help him with a guided hunt this weekend up in Darlington, the place is a massive piece of property that used to be hardwood timber but is now the world's largest cuttover/briarbed the section we were on was 14,000 acres and I believe they own another 10k. Anyway they ran Jake's young dogs the day before I got there and ended up with 3 on the day, they ran several others that got away which aint bad for this place when I say 15ft tall briars for thousands of acres it's an understatement, Angel a pup off Hambone ended up swimming the river after a big boar and they had to drive 45 minutes on the highway to get round to pick her up.The next morning we ran my dogs I brought Bj,Kc,Dozer and Rooster a new dog my buddy let me get from a ranch in FL. We got on hogs right away ran hogs round and round in the cuttovers ended up catching 2 had several busted bays and  caught hogs get away before we got to them this stuffs nasty also had to tone dogs off one that swam the river.By lunchtime mine were done they had all the briars they wanted and more it was evident that they were out of their element and they'll need a few more trips to that crap to get hardened. We broke for lunch went to the lodge and there was a big spread laid out for us waiting.I ain't used to living the high life so it was definitely a neat experience. After lunch we loaded up my Buddies hounds who run these briars like rabbits you can definitely tell they hunt that stuff regularly we ended up catching 5 from lunch to dark the last hog a big sow we were on for a couple hrs they ended up running her out of the briarbed and we caught her in the wide open on the powerlines to end the day.All in all it was a awesome experience in a totally foreign environment.I knor my dogs are used to big crowds 3 buggies 4 four wheelers nascar races to the bays and a full on party at each stop including high fives, fart jokes and Belly rubbing Dozer lol.I sure appreciated the invite and opportunity I had a blast now I'll get back to picking briars.

Small world!  We were hunting within 5 miles of each other this weekend. I hunt the block that boarders where you were which is owned by the same family, it’s all beautiful property…the kind of place you feel fortunate to be a part of. And yea I’m glad you got to see the the briar bed oceans. . It’s one of those things that you can’t tell someone about, you just gotta experience it.  Now you just need to do it in July haha. That’s good stuff though.

Lots of good looking dogs for sure. I love hounds. They are just purdy to me. I’m
glad you got to test your dogs. You’re right too, it takes something that’s acclimated to that stuff to have a lot of success. Sounds like yours faired pretty well though. That big red bulldog is sure a nice looking dude. I’m assuming the Blk/tan dog is the dog you just got off the Florida ranch?

Man it sounds like the fellas up here are giving you some first class treatment! I haven’t hunted around the darlington area but I can imagine those briars. I hunted a sod farm in or around Sally yesterday and they had some briar beds from hell. Nothing but walls of briars with pig tunnels going through them, anywhere there wasnt big thick purple briars, there was freezing cold water with random holes to drop in, lol. Not quite as much land as the place you went, but I reckon we were in 400-500acres of that stuff, down in a big bottom where all the water sheds off the sod fields.

Yeah you fell in with a awesome set up there man..   I tell people that aint never witnessed it,,  if a feller thinks a pine thicket cutover is bad in north La.. wait til they cut the hardwoods and let that land grow up in briars 20ft tall..  Itll make a man wanna cry in the summer time goin to a bay.. LOL...

Nice work Cracker & Crew. Those type of hunts can be pressure packed and tough. Good job in new territory.
-
I Struggle to have fun on those hunts. I’ve come to the conclusion that me and my dogs are not the most social creatures in the world.
-
Happy to hear you are settling in good in your new territory.
